Paraply - Speculative Design Exhibition
Project type
Speculative Design and Performance
Date
2024
Location
Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen
Held at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture, this speculative design performance explored the human-machine relationship through participatory design and performance. The project critiqued the automation of harbours, specifically referencing Rotterdam’s fully automated port, operational since 1993. Instead of relying on machines, we designed human-powered transportation tools repurposed from waste industrial materials, challenging the dominance of automation in labor-intensive environments.
As a student designer, I played an active role in:
- Material sourcing across Copenhagen to find and repurpose discarded industrial elements.
- Ideation and design of movement-based transportation tools for 60 bricks over 500 meters without using hands.
- Choreographing the performance, where humans embodied the labor roles of machines.
Photo and video documentation, capturing the process and live performance (short film coming soon).
This speculative, participatory approach reframed the cyborg narrative, emphasizing humans as machines rather than machines replacing humans—turning the conversation around automation into an embodied, thought-provoking act.
